Success Story

Green is Evident for the Lahtiset Company

A previous farmer, Alex Lahtinen, founded a felt boot factory in Jämsä in 1921, in the village of Partala. From then on, the Lahtiset company has cherished the noble skill of manufacturing felt boots, a mastery brought to Finland from Russia.

Every pair of boots which depart from the Lahtiset Factory proudly represents the long traditions of the Lahtinen family’s history, even though the yearly production has expanded up to thousands of pairs of boots. Even today, the felt boots are made carefully, step by step by hand, as the invented machinery is not able to carry out most of the working phases accurately enough.

Felt footwear is united with nature – pure wool materials ensure that the footwear does not contaminate the environment. Wool felt feels both soft and warm on the feet and yet very light and breathable. When made in the hands of professionals, a pair of felt footwear is like two unique individuals, ready to step into service.

About

Frequently asked Questions

Felt boots do not stretch out; on the contrary, they may shrink at the beginning, therefore a boot which fits perfectly in a shop may later appear to be too small. Purchasing boots which are one size too large would be more convenient.

Felt boots do not require much caretaking. After usage, it is recommended to shape the boots in their form by filling them with paper, for instance, and drying them at a low heat (+40 C). If the felt boot becomes soaking wet, it can loose its form, so direct water should be avoided. The surface can be easily cleaned by brushing. The preferable choice for storing the boots is a dark location at room temperature or colder. Felt products also need to be protected from moths.
